PEOPLE say there's no such thing as a free lunch.

But there's certainly such a thing as a free piano in Winchester.

Neighbourhood wardens have one to give away after removing it from a house in Firmstone Road, Winnall.

Warden Darren Sedman-Hobson came up with the idea of offering to take away bulky items from people's homes.

The wardens are concerned at the amount of fly tipping across Winnall, Highcliffe and Stanmore.

"We normally deal with things like anti-social behaviour. But we also have to undertake projects and clearing things was mine.

"We've been very busy, clearing five or six houses every day. The large items tend to go to the tip and toys go to charities.

Mr Sedman-Hobson said the wardens had taken some 23 calls. Residents like the idea but it is too time-consuming to become a regular thing, he said.

Anyone who wants the piano, pictured being loaded into the wardens' van, should ring the wardens on 0800 389 6274.
