SOUTHAMPTOIN’S iconic Go! Rhinos sculptures bowed out in style tonight.
The much-loved beasts raised a mammoth £124,700 for good causes when they went under the hammer at a thrilling charity auction at the Grand Harbour Hotel.
Around 200 people crammed into the auction-hall for the climax of the Marwell Wildlife public art exhibition with bidders desperately battling to take home one of 37 sculptures up for sale.
The surprise bidder of the night was Status Quo bassist John “Rhino” Edwards who paid £4,000 for the rhino Enrhinomental.
Flossy – dressed as a dental nurse – was the most expensive going for £9,000.
The money raised will be divided between Marwell conservation projects, the Wessex Heartbeat High 5 Appeal and the Rose Road Association.
