Mother of Nick Biddlecombe, left paralysed after tombstoning at Lepe Beach, describes Mo Farah as a 'plonker' after jump in the Caribbean

Carol Biddlecombe, whose son Nick was left paralysed after tombstoning at Lepe Beach 14 years ago, branded the multiple gold medallists as “irresponsible” and urged others not to copy his antics.

Nick, from Blackfield, was just 17 when he was left wheelchair-bound after shattering his neck when he hit a submerged rock in the sea after he and his friends began daring each other to take the plunge off an old lifeboat slipway.

Carol's plea to youngsters comes after the athlete posted a short video on his Facebook page, showing him leaping the height of six double-decker buses into the sea off cliffs on a private island owned by Sir Richard Branson, in the Caribbean.

Carol, 57, added: “If he wanted to do it on his own time then I can't stop him, but he shouldn't have made it public.

“He has a following of impressionable young people who are going to want to copy him. He's a plonker.

“My son is paralysed from the shoulders down. He can't do anything for himself or anyone else. To anyone watching that video and thinking about copying it, just don't do it. It's not worth it.”
