A MAN suffered serious facial injuries when he was bitten during a street assault.

The 43-year-old victim was left with bad damage to his nose after the attack in West Street, Fareham, outside the Holy Trinity Church.

He was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, where surgeons are assessing his condition.

Det Con Penny Herridge said: "It is possible that several people were involved in this attack, so we need to hear from anyone who saw a group near the church in West Street.

"Incidents of this kind are rare, but the victim sustained serious injuries that will require facial surgery and I would urge anyone with any information to come forward."

Two men, aged 23 and 24, from Lee-on-the-Solent, were arrested in connection with the assault and have been bailed until February 13 pending further inquiries.

Anyone who has any information about the incident on Saturday, December 30, should contact DC Herridge at Fareham CID on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
