POLICE have named the man who was found dead in a river at Eastleigh's Fleming Park.
He was 52 year-old Gerald McKay of Chandler's Ford. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
But Eastleigh police are appealing for witnesses as they try to piece together the last movements of Mr McKay.
Officers were called to Fleming Park, Eastleigh just before 10am on Wednesday (Janurary 3) when a member of the public reported seeing the body in the river which runs alongside the Fleming Park golf course.
A member of the public has reported seeing Mr McKay walking up the soutbound slipway to the M3 near to the Gateway Hotel in Leigh Road, at 4pm on New Year's Day.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw Mr McKay at that time or at any time between then and the time he was found in the river, to contact Eastleigh CID.
Mr McKay is described as slim, with receding hairline, and was wearing a black leather jacket and dark trousers and possibly wearing a wide brimmed hat when last seen on January 1.
Anyone with information should phone Eastleigh CID on 0845 045 45 45.
