A WOMAN was taken to hospital today after a fire in a Southampton tower block.
She was rescued by firefighters from the lounge area of her home at Canberra Towers off Kingsclere Avenue in Weston.
The blaze broke out in the kitchen of the property shortly after 9.30am and caused smoke damage throughout.
It is believed the fire may have started when food that was being cooked caught fire.
A total of 20 firefighters from Redbridge, St Mary's and Hightown tackled the blaze which was brought under control by 10.20am.
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance treated the woman, believed to be in her thirties and suffering smoke inhalation,to Southampton General Hospital.
Her condition is not believed to be serious.
