TIME is running out to claim your share of £50,000 from the Daily Echo.
Last month we revealed we had joined forces with Sport Relief ’s Community Cash to give away grants of £500 to £1,000 to good causes across Hampshire.
The funds raised through the Sport Relief Games will be distributed back to the local area by the Daily Echo.
That means money raised locally by the event on March 21 to 23 will be put back into worthwhile causes in this area through us and the Sport Relief Community Cash link-up.
Already there have been plenty of applications, but there is just one week left to apply via the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation website.
The HIWCF is the independent charitable foundation dedicated to feeding donations to the local area.
Chief executive Toni Shaw said: “I am delighted to see so many interesting projects coming through from groups across the Southern Daily Echo news region.
“We have received requests for support from groups helping children, older people and those with disabilities.
“This is a really exciting community grants programme that is open to so many different and diverse projects including parent and toddler groups, sports groups, community festivals, luncheon clubs and self help groups so I would encourage groups to get on to the website, take a look and put in an application.”
Readers can apply or find out more about the grants by logging on to hantscf.org.uk.
The cash will be used to support work that has benefitted people’s lives who are at a disadvantage because of low income, rural or social isolation, age, disabilities, race, sexuality or gender.
HIWCF will prioritise small, locally based groups or organisations working in deprived areas of society and that have helped their local community, addressing their needs.
Applications close on March 4.
To raise money for local causes there are ten different runs and swims taking place around Hampshire for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games.
Southampton is hosting a Sport Relief Mile on Sunday, March 23, starting and finishing at Guildhall Square. People can choose to run one, three or six miles.
