PEOPLE from Southampton are being are advised to buzz like a bee for Sport Relief and help break a world record.
With just over a week to go until the Sport Relief Mile starts in Guildhall Square, mayoress Mary White is asking the city’s people to dress up like bumblebees to run the event.
She is organising a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest swarm of human bumblebees, all in the name of charity causes.
As part of celebrations of Southampton’s 50th jubilee year of becoming a city, the bees will raise cash in support of people at disadvantage in the local area as well as the rest of the United Kingdom and abroad.
Mary said: “We want to show off what we can do with people coming together from all sections of the community.
“It is also a world record attempt; hopefully we can get over 500 people from different groups in the local area to take part.”
In 2012 Mary took part in Sport Relief dressed as Miss Piggy with her son Josh in Kermit the Frog gear.
As reported, there is just over one week to go until the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile takes place, but there is still time to take part in one of the runs and swims across Hampshire on March 23.
