WHAT do you get if you cross a fairy tale classic with rock and roll music?

The answer is Southampton's first rock and roll pantomime.

The youth cast of Cinderella Rocks! took to the stage for the first show in their three-night run at Solent University's Sir John Millais Building.

The show, put on by the city's Gantry Youth Theatre, featured a cast of over 40 children performing rock and roll classics to the story of Cinderella, with the help of a live band.

Show producer Phil Hearn praised the young cast for their professionalism.

He said: "It was a very successful show indeed.

"There were a couple of technical hitches but the children coped admirably with them.

"By the end everyone was cheering and screaming, and we even came back on to do an encore.

"Putting on the show has been a real community effort, not only from the cast but also from the parents who made the costumes, the musicians who have given up their time to be in the show, the volunteers who have helped out behind the scenes and Solent University for providing a venue."
