WORK on a new £270,000 skate park in Winchester starts on Monday.
The park, at North Walls, will be made of spray concrete rather than prefabricated ramps, which is said to be more sustainable.
In 2012 over 50 young people put forward their ideas at a public meeting, and the design was developed and launched by Winchester City Council in January 2013.
The funding is made up of £170,000 from Town Forum open space funds, £100,000 from the Veolia Environmental Trust, £10,000 from Headbourne Worthy Parish Council and £240 from Tichbourne Parish Council.
The executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, said: “This new skate park will provide young people with a place where they can meet up and have fun outdoors. It is great news that work starts next Monday and I look forward to seeing it take shape over the coming months.”
The work will be carried out by Maverick Skateparks, and is expected to be finished in August.
