IT was a big crane for a big job.
The 500-tonne, 80-metre crane was brought into Southampton Central railway station as part of the track replacement work which left it closed throughout the weekend.
The crane was drafted in to put a scissor cross section of track into place and signalled the next phase of Network Rail’s and the South West Trains Alliance’s £20million investment to upgrade the line through the city.
Project manager Sean Hodges said the repair work is on schedule to finish on May 4.
He said: “The job is on target at the moment. We have had absolutely no delays.”
