MASTER of all things magical, mind reader or even miracle worker?
I’m still not entirely certain.
But one thing’s for sure, with this baffling, bizarre yet brilliant show, this is one man who certainly knows how to singlehandedly work a crowd.
An enthusiastic sell-out audience to the first night of Derren Brown’s week-long return to the Mayflower was completely captivated by a thrilling theatrical experience from a witty raconteur and talented illusionist.
I won’t spoil the specific sequences for you, but, suffice to say, there’s surprise after amazing surprise in a complete rollercoaster of a show, which sees Brown back at his very best.
He makes a superb showman and as far as us mere mortals could tell, even the cynical journalists, there was not a single slip in his slick act.
Without wanting to incur his wrath by revealing too much, there’s oodles of audience participation, plenty of persuasion and some serious suggestion.
The second act delves into a murkier world, but one that truly fascinates.
I was a complete sceptic before last night, but after a nearly three-hour overrunning show, I’m baffled but a complete convert to the magical world Derren inhabits. We all left wondering what on earth we had seen from as sharp a performer as you are likely to encounter on stage.
Utterly astounding, Derren’s latest live show certainly has the “how?” factor.
