A TOTTON councillor has described a planning application to expand a home as looking like “a bungalow on steroids”.
Members of the town council hit out at proposals to turn a bungalow in Lackford Avenue, Rushington, into a large “barn-like” structure.
They agreed to urge New Forest District Council to reject the application to extend the property.
Proposed changes to the roof were outlined at a meeting of the town council’s planning and transport advisory committee.
Town clerk Derek Biggs said: “It’s one of the most unusual designs I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like a barn.”
Committee members complained that people who could not afford to move house were seeking consent for large and out of character extensions to their existing homes.
Cllr David Harrison said: “We’re getting bungalows on steroids. They’re expanding in all directions.”
