ROMSEY’S War Horse statue is taking shape.
Artist Amy Goodman is seen here working on the statue, which will be cast in bronze resin.
The horse and trooper will eventually stand in Romsey’s War Memorial Park as a tribute to the tens of thousands of horses and mules which were prepared for service in the First World War at Romsey Remount Camp, just outside the town on Pauncefoot Hill.
Amy said: “This is the first life-size horse I’ve ever made. It’s the project I’ve wanted to do.”
Amy is working on the statue at Project Workshops arts centre in Quarley. The public will be able to see how the statue is progressing at an open weekend on May 17-18.
The statue will cost £55,000 – £40,000 of which has already been raised by the Romsey War Horse Project – plus another £15,000 to £20,000 for the plinth and setting.
Donate to the project by cheque to: The Town Clerk, Town Hall, Romsey, SO51 8YZ.
