PLANS for an Ikea superstore in Southampton were due to go on display today.
The Swedish furniture giant wants to build the store on the former Pirelli cable works in West Quay Road near the city centre.
The proposals have already sparked a huge reaction when we revealed the firm's third attempt to bring a store to the city.
Businesses and civic leaders have already backed the plans, although some have raised traffic concerns over the tens of thousands of shoppers the store would attract.
The proposed 34,000 square foot store will hold a product range of over 9,000 articles across four floors.
It will have a 600-seat restaurant selling IKEA food and beverages to customers, with a 900-space car park.
The move would bring also 500 jobs to the city.
The draft plans can be seen at an exhibition at Bargate monument, Southampton, from today until Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
