THRILL seekers had the chance to sample the great outdoors in Southampton as the Woodmill Activity Centre opened its doors in a taster-day event.
Activities including kayaking, abseiling, climbing and archery were all on offer at the centre which is in Woodmill Lane in the heart of the city.
The bank holiday sunshine brought families out in their droves to the discovery day event at the Active Nation run centre.
It was the first one of the year held by the Woodmill Activity Centre. Last year hundreds of adventurous residents took advantage of the offer to try out a range of outdoor pursuits for just a few pounds.
Operations manager Neil Adcock said: “It is a really fantastic opportunity to make the most of this amazing facility that Southampton has. It really gives the public a chance to find out more about what we have got on offer and how they can make the most of it.”
Seven-year-old Lily Wakely was one of the dare-devils who scaled a timber pole before taking a ‘leap of faith’ out onto a trapeze attached to a harness.
“I wasn’t scared at all. It was a bit wobbly at the top though,” she said.
It is one of a series of open day events at Active Nation-facilities that are being run over the course of their Discovery Weekend event. Today families will be welcomed at the Alpine Centre for snow sports, the Outdoor Southampton Sports Centre will play host to a mass Easter egg hunt tomorrow and on Easter Monday there will be sailing action at Southampton Water Activity Centre.
