Detectives are investigating after a large quantity of illegally obtained fuel was found in an industrial storage unit in Hampshire.
The discovery was made 48 hours ago in West Wellow and is thought to be a substantial amount although details are not being revealed by Hampshire Constabulary.
Police, the Environment Agency and representatives from Esso have all been on the site since the find was made on Thursday.
The owner of the unit is understood to have made the discovery but it is believed the property was being let.
A police spokeswoman said tonight that the diesel was "believed to have been illegally obtained" but added that the exact quantity and circumstances surrounding the accumulation of fuel are central to the investigation and were not being revealed.
Detectives from Lyndhurst CID are leading the investigation and are focussing on identifying those responsible.
The field is being retrieved by engineers from the Esso refinery.
