AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a man died after being struck by a car on a Hampshire road.
The 61-year-old pedestrian died after a collision with a vehicle in Ringwood Road, Netley Marsh, near Totton, at around 10.30pm on Easter Sunday.
It is understood the man was from the Totton area but has not yet been named by police.
Residents told how around five police cars were on the scene together with three ambulances, an ambulance officer and a team leader.
The man sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died later.
Rich Maidment of Ringwood Road said he saw a man walk past his house at the time after being alerted by his dog.
Mr Maidment, 34, said: “I saw a guy walking by the house as it got my dog all excited. Then a while later I heard the dog still growling and I saw all these lights outside. I came outside and saw all the police cars along the road and I found out the man had been hit in the road. The police and ambulance must have been here for an hour-and-a-half.”
Mr Maidment added it was the first road incident he could remember happening in the area. He said: “My family have been here for four years and nothing like this has happened before.”
Another resident, of nearby Tatchbury Lane, said he was alerted by lights flashing through his window.
He said: “The police closed off traffic along Tatchbury and I realised something serious had happened when they started putting tape across the road. It’s quite a reasonable area for traffic so you don’t usually see much happen here. But the police had everything under control and calm.”
The driver was uninjured and was not arrested.
Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should contact Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101.
