THE big day is almost here.
Patriotic people in Southampton will celebrate all things English tomorrow for St George’s Day.
And for the first time ever the city is hosting its own festival in honour of the patron saint, remembered in legend for slaying a dragon.
Events include themed games and tournaments at Polygon and Oasis Academy Mayfield schools, afternoon teas across the city and a film festival run by Southampton Solent University staff and students.
The events are being coordinated by Southampton Itchen MP John Denham, city council communities chief Satvir Kaur, Southampton Festivals and Southampton Voluntary Services.
Many have been funded by the city council’s St George’s Day Community Chest.
