PLANS for a late-night levy on Southampton clubs and bars will go out for public consultation this summer.

Council bosses will ask the public for their views on the proposals, which could come into force in February.

The levy, which would see venues in the city centre pay annual fees of up to £4,440, would go towards the cost of policing the effects of the night-time economy.

Seventy per cent of money would go to Hampshire police, and 30 per cent to Southampton City Council, with the charge expected to bring in £240,000 each year.
