A HAMPSHIRE-based warship has been sent to track a Russian naval vessel close to British waters.
The MoD sanctioned HMS Dragon, the Royal Navy’s fleet-ready escort, to meet up with the Vice Admiral Kulakov, which is transiting past the UK.
A spokesman for the MoD said the vessel was deployed last week.
HMS Warrior left its permanent base in Portsmouth dockyard to keep an eye on the ship to waters off Scotland.
The spokesman said: ''In what is a well established and standard response, the powerful Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer met its Russian counterpart and is now keeping an eye on its transit south.''
