HE was a gentle giant with a big heart.
That is how the heartbroken family of Patrick Duffy have described the man who died after he was struck by a car on Easter Sunday.
The 61-year-old was hit by a Ford Focus while walking crossing the A336 Ringwood Road near Carlton House in Netley Marsh.
He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he later died.
Last night his family paid tribute to Mr Duffy, of Southampton Road, Bartley.
In a statement released through police, they said: “Words cannot describe how devastated we all are.
He was a loving husband, father, brother and son.
“He was very well known and great friend to many. He was a gentle giant with a big heart. We will miss him so much.”
Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with details to contact Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101.
Residents in the area spoke of their shock and told of seeing five police cars and three ambulances at the scene of the incident, which happened at around 10.30pm.
The driver of the Ford Focus was unhurt and not arrested by police.
An investigation into the cause of the incident was launched, and the emergency services were at the scene for around an hour and a half.
