FIRE-BREATHING dragons and valiant knights launched into battle to honour the nation.

A sea of red and white descended over Hampshire yesterday as hundreds celebrated St George’s Day.

People of all ages paid tribute to England’s patron saint in an action-packed day of activities across the county.

Youngsters at the Oasis Academy Mayfield, Southampton, made their voices heard when they held a dragon roaring contest.

They took turns to bellow into a decibel-measuring machine with the chance to win an Easter egg, while teachers organised games sessions including basketball, volleyball and netball.

It was a k-night to remember at the Hub Theatre, in City College, Chapel Row, where thespians hosted a St George’s Day festival featuring drama, dance, singing and film premieres.

Little ones at Hiltingbury Infant School in Chandler’s Ford swapped their uniforms for swords and shields. Youngsters also donned dragon costumes and princess outfits as part of the festivities at the Hiltingbury Road school.

Elderly folk at Weston Court, Weston, also joined in the fun with games and celebrations marking the day.

Members of Southampton Sight tucked into tasty treats at a St George’s tea party in the Bassett Road centre for blind and partially-sighted people.
