SWIMMERS from Winchester City Penguins are celebrating after picking up medals in the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships, which sees young people complete a timed swim and run.
In the first competition to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, in Stratford, since the London Olympic Games, young athletes from across Winchester qualified for the finals after competing against more than 6,000 pupils from throughout Britain, aged nine to 19.
Oliver Bulpett, from Kings’ School, won GB gold in the boys under-12 event, closely followed by teammate James Baxter from Twyford School who earned bronze.
Anastasia Lawrence led the St Swithun’s under-11 girls team to gold, with Iona Morley and Evelyna Johnson, and Kings’ schoolgirls Olivia Hildebrandt, Anna Cutts and Jemima Weston scooped the bronze in the under-13 category.
