Hundreds of Scouts, Cubs and Beavers paraded through Hampshire for their annual St George’s Day Parades.

In Southampton crowds clapped and cheered as 700 youngsters from 30 groups marched on a newly created route from the Cenotaph to Guildhall Square.

The HMS Sultan band led uniformed sections carrying the Union Jack and the flag of St George on what was a more prominent route than the previous St Mary’s Street parade, cancelled last year after the murder of Southampton man Jahmel Jones.

They sung hymns and renewed their promises at an outdoor service in the square conducted by District Chaplain Chris Davis and attended by Mayor Cllr Ivan White.

District Commissioner Asa Moore said: “It’s great to see them so smart and exciting to see the streets are lined with people supporting this big event.”

In Winchester uniformed sections marched from Colebrook Street to the city's cathedral for a service.

Earlier crowds lined the streets in Eastleigh for a morning parade from Norwood School to Leigh Road recreation ground.

Scouts and Guides also gathered at Romsey Abbey for celebrations while those in Fareham made their way from Market Quay through the town centre.
