A CYCLIST is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car this afternoon.
The man was treated at the scene for life threatening injuries following the collision on the A334 and taken to hospital following the incident shortly after 1pm, a spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said.
Police initially said the man was in his 40s but they have now confirmed he is 70.
The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance attended the scene, between Station Hill and Lockhams Road just east of Botley station, along with two ambulance officers and an ambulance crew.
They worked to treat the man at the scene, before the man was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance.
The road has been closed in both directions following the crash.
Police confirmed officers were on the scene and that diversions are being put in place by the Highways Agency, but are unable to provide further information at this stage.
