THERE was plenty of messing around on boats as novice sailors took to the water for a charity open day.
Families flocked to Southampton when the MDL Ocean Village Marina opened its facilities for people to try.
More than 50 visitors tried their hand in a selection of crafts ranging from a 10m RIB speedboat to a stunning 50ft Fairline Phantom motor cruiser.
They held on tight for jet-ski demonstrations and yachting lessons during Try a Boat classes provided by Solent Boat Training.
There was also on-shore maintenance, sea safety and first aid demonstrations at the event in aid of the Ocean Youth Trust South.
Coastal pursuits principal Matthew Burton said: “We have been trying to encourage people to get out and about on the water and that sailing some big boats isn’t as scary as it looks."
