HAMPSHIRE transport chiefs are to install a new zebra crossing in a Winchester suburb and remove three parking spaces to improve road safety.
The county council plans to build the new crossing this summer on Stoney Lane, Weeke, near the Stockbridge Road junction.
Since Waitrose, Aldi and the parade of shops on the northern side of Stoney Lane opened, there has been a noticeable increase in pedestrians wanting to cross the road.
The road will also be resurfaced on the approach to the crossing.
In order to provide the crossing, three car parking spaces will be lost, two on the southern side and one on the northern side.
A Traffic Regulation Order will be advertised via local press and through street notices. The public can make a comment before May 23, by email at implementation@hants.gov.uk or by post to Strategic Transport, Economy, Transport and Environment Department, Hampshire County Council, SO23 8UD.
