A SOUTHAMPTON football ground which is home to Sholing FC will be getting a much-needed new clubhouse thanks to a grant.
The Vosper Thornycroft (VT) sports ground, in Portsmouth Road, Woolston, has been given the grant from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
The money will be used to build a new multi-purpose clubhouse to serve the community. There are also plans to build a 3g pitch.
Sport England property director Charles Johnston said: “Since 2011 we’ve invested £88m into more than 1,600 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs. It’s great to see these latest projects join the long list of successful clubs to benefit from this fund.”
Sholing company director Dave Bennett said: “I hope the whole community will make the most of the clubhouse.”
It comes as an extra boost to Sholing, who are set to play in the FA Vase final at Wembley against West Auckland Town on May 10.
