A HAMPSHIRE MP is calling on his constituents to put forward their views on plans to move clocks forward by an hour.

John Denham, MP for Southampton Itchen, has made a plea to residents to express their views on the plans, which would make mornings darker and evenings lighter.

The Bill, introduced by Tory MP Tim Yeo, would mean that in the summer the time would be British Summer Time + one hour and in the winter it would be Greenwich Mean Time + one hour Mr Denham said: "Here in Southampton, this would make for darker mornings but the evenings would stay light for longer.

"There is some evidence that lighter evenings in the winter would reduce the accident rate for pedestrians, especially children, but do we want it to be dark in the mornings when we're travelling to work or school?

"I'd like people to write and tell me what they think or go to my website at www.johndenham.org.uk where I've set up a survey."

The Bill is due to be debated in Parliament on January 26.
