DANGEROUS terrain, beautiful waterfalls and broken bones.

Those are just some of the sights and experiences captured by a pair of Hampshire film-makers who embarked on the journey of a lifetime when they decided to film a charity motorcycle rally across South Africa.

Gary Cassey and Nick Coulson, of Eastleigh company Cass Productions, joined more than 100 bikers on a 14-day ride across rough terrain as part of the Enduro Africa motorcycle challenge.

Leaving the comfort of their Hampshire homes, Gary, 34, and Nick, 25, travelled 3,500km as they recorded the bikers' adventure, which was in aid of Riders For Health - a charity dedicated to helping aid workers in Africa deliver care to remote communities.

"It was an amazing experience," said Gary, who lives in Rownhams.

"We were asked to do it at the last minute, after another company dropped out, and it really was worth it.

"One minute you're looking at a dusty road in barren surroundings, and the next you're seeing fantastic waterfalls coming out of rocks. The land changed so quickly."

Gary said the adventure was so tough that many of the bikers, who came from all over the world, failed to finish.

He said: "About ten per cent couldn't finish. There were a few broken arms and wrists. We also had a broken leg, and one biker suffered a punctured lung.

"We made the journey in a 4x4. I've never really ridden a motorcycle and don't think I'm that keen to now."

Nick said: "I never really thought of South Africa as a place I would really want to go but the challenge really opened my eyes and I would love to go back there."

The film-makers are still editing their footage from the December trip and are also getting ready to get back on the road with Enduro India.
