A BRAZILIAN carnival swept through the streets of Southampton to mark the start of the World Cup.
More than 120 Shirley residents joined the Rio-themed street party in Lumsden Avenue, Newlands Avenue and Charlton Road.
Sheriff of Southampton Cllr Linda Norris, Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead and Freemantle councillor Brian Parnell attended the event, featuring a barbecue, a football match, quizzes and tombola.
Firefighters got in on the fun, left, using their hoses to keep children cool in the heat.
