FOOTBALL fans across Hampshire were left in utter misery after England lost 2-1 to Uruguay tonight.
Thousands are currently drowning their sorrows after witnessing Liverpool’s Luis Suarez score twice to all but end England’s World Cup.
Saints captain Adam Lallana was a late substitute alongside his former teammate Rickie Lambert but neither could make a significant impact.
Luis Suarez rifles home the second Uruguay goal
Wayne Rooney had cancelled out Suarez’s first-half opener with his first World Cup finals goal in the 75th minute and the momentum appeared to shift towards the Three Lions.
But a defensive mistake from captain Steven Gerrard let Suarez in one-on-one with Joe Hart and he rifled the ball past the England ‘keeper for the win.
It means England need a minor miracle to qualify and need Italy to beat both Costa Rica tomorrow and then Uruguay in their final game to stand a chance of getting through to the second round.
Even if the Italians are triumphant tomorrow, England would need a convincing victory against Costa Rica with a current goal difference of minus two.
