A 37 year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies on Hampshire filling stations.

The breakthrough comes less than a week after police released CCTV of a masked man holding up the Shell petrol station in Fareham Road, Wickham.

He showed him pointing a gun across the counter demanding cash from terrified staff.

The raid was also linked with an armed robbery at a Jet garage in Portsmouth Road, Liphook.

Today in a statement polcie said: "Detectives have arrested a 37-year-old man from Havant in connection with an armed robbery at the Shell garage in Wickham and three other robberies.

"The man was arrested in Havant yesterday on suspicion of robberies at One Stop in Havant on Nov 4, Jet service station in Liphook on Jan 4, Shell garage in Wickham on Jan 9 and Tesco Express in Southbourne on Jan 14."
