POLICE were called to an exclusive hotel in the New Forest when a a fight broke out involving partying women.

It happened when an argument broke out at Careys Manor Hotel in Lyndhurst Road, Brockenhurst.

According to police, one of the partygoers was alleged to have struck the other with a bottle, causing a minor head injury.

The incident is understood to have involved a pair of revellers who were part of a group of female pole dancers on a night out from Southampton.

A police spokesman said: "We were asked to investigate an alleged assault involving two guests who were staying at the hotel.

"Two women were sitting in the bar at 2am when one is said to have struck the other with a bottle.

"The victim suffered a minor head injury but didn't want to take the matter any further."

A hotel spokesman confirmed that one woman was assaulted in the incident but insisted that no bottles were involved.

He added: "There was a verbal disagreement between two people, one of whom broke a glass over the other's head.

"The police were called and one of the women left in rather a hurry, presumably because she knew she'd done something wrong. The other chose to remain at the hotel.

"I understand that they may have been pole dancers but as far as I'm concerned they were just two guests at a party.

"We certainly don't hold pole dancing events or anything of that nature."

Pole dancing has spent years trying to shed its sleazy image.

Once confined to places such as Soho, it has spread to dance studios, gyms and even kitchens across the country.

Women all over the UK are using it to enhance their fitness and flexibility.
