SOUTHAMPTON has a new judge in Nicholas Rowland.
He was welcomed to the crown court by Judge Peter Henry who described him as having been a calm and effective performer at the bar and he had no doubt he would make a popular and effective judge.
On behalf of the barristers, Stephen Parish said he would be aware of the challenges that faced not only the judiciary but also the profession. “However, you will manage them well.”
Judge Rowland, who was called to the bar in 1988, had previously sat as a recorder at the court after being appointed to the role in 2005.
He said: “Having practised here for 26 years, it’s a privilege for me to be here.”
