MORE buses will be on city roads today as part of a £2.7m investment in Southampton transport.
First Hampshire is launching its City Red Fleet today with ten new vehicles which will take on Service 2 from the city centre to Millbrook via Shirley.
All the buses have a two-tone red livery to distinguish them from the number three which runs from Lordshill to Thornhill.
One was being unveiled by city council transport boss Jacqui Rayment in Millbrook this afternoon alongside ward councillor Lee Whitbread.
The fleet are all Wright Streetlite midi micro-hybrids, one of the world’s most fuel efficient buses, and come fitted with leather seats, free wifi and LED lighting.
It follows a £1.3m investment by first last year in nine buses for service one between Adanac Park to the city centre and the £100,000 refurbishment of 14 vehicles on the three service.
