A SOUTHAMPTON electronics firm has been fined £5,000 after a teenager cut off the tips of two fingers while using a cutting machine.
Southampton magistrates heard that the 16-year-old had been using a cable-cutting machine at St Cross Electronics when his fingers were severed by the moving blade last April.
An investigation found the company had not carried out a suitable and sufficient risk assessment.
It also found that the company had not taken measures to effectively guard the machine.
St Cross Electronics, based in Mount Pleasant Road, was fined £3,000 for the risk assessment offence and £2,000 for the machinery guarding offence.
It was also ordered to pay costs of £2,486 after admitting the offences.
