A FUNDRAISING raft race that has been a fixture of the calendar for nearly 30 years will be held this weekend.
The Daily Echo-sponsored Great Waterside Raft Race is held to raise cash for the RNLI and is held on the sea, adding an element of unpredictability not found on river races.
Hardy sea-goers will take to the waters at Hythe Pier between the two high tides unique to the Solent area.
There will be six races on Sunday beginning with the decorated rafts race, with a brand new trophy going to the triumphant team.
Next will be the longer Formula 1 race, which involves fast-racing crafts navigating a longer course, as well as the ladies race, the pub race and the junior race.
Finally all rafts will take part in the handicap race, with teams staggered to ensure any raft can win.
There will be side stalls and a funfair for the gathered crowds, while drinks and a barbecue will also be available.
