POLICE hunting a machete-wielding gang who staged a late night raid at a Southampton home have made an arrest.
A 22-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and bailed until Wednesday, October 15, pending further enquiries.
As reported by the Daily Echo, a masked gang broke into a home Leaside Way, Bassett Green around midnight.
One member carrying a machete approached homeowner and businessman Khalid Abrkhil, 30, before throwing a saucepan at him.
The armed gang assaulted one of four friends staying in the flat before fleeing empty-handed.
Mr Abrkhil jumped in his car to pursue their getaway vehicle down Thomas Lewis Way in his vehicle but was unable to keep up.
The break-in on Wednesday, August 13, was the second time the house had been targeted in three days.
Two days earlier a man with his face obscured broke in at 3.50pm and stole £15,000 cash - which was takings from Mr Abrkhil and his flat mate's businesses - and a Rolex watch.
In the earlier attack one of Mr Abrkhil's housemates suffered a cut to his hand when he was slashed with a bladed weapon.
The robber fled in a white van.
Witnesses should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
