A MAN has appeared in court after a taxi driver was stabbed in the leg.

Nicholas Jeffry, of no fixed abode, appeared before magistrates yesterday facing charges of wounding with intent and possessing a knife in a public place.

He was remanded in custody due to appear before Southampton Crown Court in September.

The 27-year-old was arrested and taken into custody near Southampton Central Railway Station following an incident where British Transport Police (BTP) said a taxi driver was stabbed in the leg.

A BTP spokesman said they had been called shortly after 11.30pm on Tuesday following reports that a man had been wounded.

He said: “We attended the scene, alongside colleagues from Hampshire police and South Central Ambulance Service.

“A 41-year-old man with a stab wound to his leg was taken to hospital.

“Officers from Hampshire police arrested a 27-year-old man at the scene.”
