POLICE are investigating the cause of a head-on crash between a car and a lorry in Hampshire that left a teenager dead and a man in hospital.

Emergency services were called into action following the crash between a black Vauxhall Corsa and a white Scania HGV on the A32 between Fareham and Wickham.

South Central Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle but medics were unable to save the driver of the Corsa, a 19-year-old man from Soberton.

The driver of the lorry, a 52-year-old man from Southampton, suffered chest injuries and was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the collision, which happened at about 3am on yesterday.

Police closed the road for more than 12 hours as they carried out an examination of the scene – finally reopening the road just after 6pm.

The incident was the first of three traffic collisions, all involving a car and a heavy goods vehicle on that day.

A man was taken to hospital suffering from suspected head and leg injuries after a collision at Boarhunt Road, Boarhunt, near Fareham, at 7.48am.

Then just ten minutes later, a lorry and a car collided on the M27 near junction eight, blocking off two lanes of the carriageway. A motorist was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
