TWO Southampton shops have been given second chances after selling alcohol to youngsters.
Both Best One in Shirley Road and Family Food Store in Warren Avenue have had their licences suspended after failing police test purchase operations.
Hampshire Constabulary had brought reviews forward against both stores.
A 15-year-old girl was sold a bottle of Lambrini at Best One in June, while police were also concerned that licence holder Olubukunola Bankole did not have a functioning CCTV system and that alcohol was visible from outside the shop.
And a 15-year-old girl also bought a bottle of WKD at Family Food Store in June.
Licensing chiefs voted to suspend Family Food Stores’ licence for one month so the store could meet licence requirements about CCTV.
And Best One has had its licence suspended for between one and three months, while new conditions have been imposed meaning no single cans or super-strength lagers or ciders can be sold.
The orders imposed on the shops are just the latest in a licensing crackdown in the city this summer.
Licensing committee chairman Cllr Matt Tucker said: “We have taken both cases seriously, and should subsequent issues come back to us then it is something we will take a dim view of and it may lead to the premises’ licences being put in jeopardy.”
Last week Shop Local, in Shirley Road, had its licence revoked after alcohol was sold to an under-age youngster for the third time in two years.
And before that the Griffin Inn, in Anglesea Road, had its licence taken away after a string of incidents over the past four years, while The Dorchester Arms, in Onslow Road, has also had its licence revoked after a spate of incidents, including a mass brawl.
