GROUPS in Southampton are being offered the chance to take control of a community centre.
The city council will be inviting bids for the St Alban’s Resource Centre, in Northumberland Road.
Last year the council approved a community asset transfer programme, which could see some centres sold.
Groups are being invited to bid for both St Alban’s and the Townhill Park and Northam community centres as part of the programme.
Civic chiefs hope that selling some centres will save the city money on their running costs, while giving community groups the opportunity to manage them.
City communities chief Cllr Satvir Kaur said: “The aim is to create successful, vibrant and inclusive community-managed assets that are sustainable in the long term, and we welcome expressions of interest from individuals and groups that want to work with us to help achieve this.”
The deadline to show interest for St Alban’s is 5pm on November 21.
