A MAN from Southampton has died this evening after a fatal road crash.
Emergency services were called to Eastern Square, Portland, Dorset, at around 6.10pm to reports of a two-car crash.
The collision involved a blue Ford Focus and a red Ford Fiesta.
Dorset police have tonight confirmed the driver of the Ford Focus, a man in his 70s from Southampton, was taken to Dorset County Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The road was closed for three hours as police carried out investigations into the crash.
The identity of the man has not been released.
A spokesman from Dorset Police said: “At approximately 6.10pm a road traffic collision occurred in Eastern Square, Portland, involving two vehicles.
“The first a blue Ford Focus and a red Ford Fiesta.
“Unfortunately the male driver of the Focus from the Southampton area was pronounced deceased at Dorset County Hospital a short time later.
“Sgt Stuart Pitman would like to appeal for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision.
“The road was closed for just under three hours as an investigation was conducted.
“Sgt Pitman would like to thank the local community for their patience in this tragic incident.”
Paramedics were also called to the incident.
A spokeswoman for the South Western Ambulance Service Trust said: “There was one casualty in the incident, which was an elderly man in his 70s.
“He was taken toDorset County Hospital for treatment.”
