A SOUTHAMPTON pub at the centre of a battle by campaigners to prevent it becoming a fast food restaurant has held a family fun day.
The Bittern was raising money for the chemotherapy ward at Southampton General Hospital.
Entertainment included music, face painting and a bouncy castle. The event raised more than £1,500.
Landlord Glen McInnes said: “It was a brilliant day and everyone enjoyed the last bit of sunshine. It was great to have all the support of our locals and to see everyone having fun for such an important cause.”
The event comes just days after the Daily Echo told how campaigners face a further fight to save the historic pub.
Proposals to turn the venue into a McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru had been thrown out by planners at Southampton City Council. But the restaurant giant has lodged an appeal, which will mean a public inquiry.
