THERE were plenty of smiles, and maybe just a few tears, as people gathered to enjoy the Lordshill Fun Festival back in August 1980.
Among the many attractions, the highlights on the day included an It’s a Knockout competition, inflatable frolics |for both young and old on a huge bouncy castle, and some expert baton-twirling star turns from the Mayflower Majorettes.
The only disappointment on the day was the cancellation of the “Farmyard Parade” fancy dress competition, which left one little girl very upset.

Young Louise Smith, accompanied by her brother Lee, had come specially dressed as Aunt Sally and Worzel Gummidge but the pair from Chisholm Close, Lordshill, were left heartbroken when the contest was scrapped due to insufficient numbers when the two siblings were the only entrants for the competition on the day.
