Mothers in Southampton are increasingly becoming the breadwinner for their family, according to a recent study.

The research, carried out by Engage Mutual, revealed that 48 per cent of mums are now supporting their family in the city. It also showed that these mums are responsible for key financial decisions, ranging from what bank to use, to when bills are paid.

The survey asked 2,000 mums across the country for their income and household status and also revealed that 40 per cent of mums living in the UK were the breadwinner at home.
