ROBOTS behind the bar, radio-controlled luggage tracking, and the fastest Internet at sea – it sounds like something from a sci-fi film.

But tech-savvy holidaymakers will be able to experience the “bionic bar” aboard the new Quantum of the Seas and Southampton-based Anthem of the Seas ships next year.

It will be the first bar in the world where guests can order drinks via computer tablets, then watch the automated bartenders mix and deliver their cocktails of choice.

The aim is to make passengers feel like they are stepping into the future.

Crew members will have apps to better track guests’ tastes and preferences, and there is a higher level of sustainability.

Anthem of the Seas debuts in Southampton in April 2015 and will offer an indoor sports and entertainment complex, including bumper cars, as well as the cruise line’s largest rooms.

Stuart Leven, Royal Caribbean International managing director, said: “Guests onboard our new Quantum-class ships will be forgiven for thinking they’ve been transported to the future when they see first-hand all of the incredible technological advancements that have seamlessly been incorporated into the ship. The new technologies make things possible at sea that could never have been done before.”

The ships will also house a troupe of six roboscreens, which stage surprise performances during cruises.
