IT is one of Britain’s biggest and most spectacular festivals.
And now it is set to get even bigger as Bestival boss Rob Da Bank unveils his plans to launch a sister event in a more exotic location, the Daily Echo can reveal.
Next week an estimated 55,000 revellers will head to the music extravaganza on the Isle of Wight, which is celebrating its 11th anniversary this year.
But as the remaining tickets are snapped up, the DJ is already looking to next year when he hopes to build on the success of Bestival by going abroad to draw in a whole new crowd.
Rob, who is due to switch to BBC Radio 6 music after a decade at Radio 1, was keeping tight-lipped on the location, date and acts playing there.
But he told the Daily Echo: “It’s a bit under-wraps but there are definitely plans afoot.
“We would be doing another Bestival somewhere else in the world next year.
“We’ve had people for years asking us to take it for other territories and we have been in talks for at least two or three years.”
But he stressed the new venture would not clash with his coveted Isle of Wight event held at Robin Hill Country Park.
He said it would be held at a completely different time of year and added: “It’s going to be totally different acts and ways of approaching it. We will get into that when we launch it.”
Bestival is part of his Sunday Best business which started as an independent record label and club night promotion before spawning the festival first held in 2004.
American hip hop band OutKast will headline at this year’s extravaganza, one of only two UK performances in a comeback tour celebrating their 20th anniversary.
